Optimal Control of the Unsteady Navier-Stokes Equations

چکیده
1 2 A general method based on adjoint formulation is discussed for the optimal control of distributed parameter systems (including boundary parameter) which is especially suitable for large dimensional control problems. Strategies for efficient and robust implementation of the method are described. A set of consistency checks are proposed for the validation of the adjoint code. The method is applied to the problem of controlling vor-tex shedding behind a cylinder (through suction/ blowing on the cylinder surface) governed by the unsteady two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with time-dependent boundary conditions. Three types of objective functions are considered, with regularization to circumvent ill-posedness. These objective functions involve integration over a space-time domain. A complete control of vortex shedding is demonstrated for Reynolds numbers up to 110. The optimal values of the suction/blowing parameters are found to be insensitive to initial conditions of the model when the time window of control is larger than the vortex shedding period, the inverse of the Strouhal frequency. Although this condition is necessary for robust control, it is observed that a shorter window of control may suffice to suppress vortex shedding.

متن کاملProper Orthogonal Decomposition in Optimal Control of Fluids
In this article, we present a reduced order modeling approach suitable for active control of uid dynamical systems based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). The rationale behind the reduced order modeling is that numerical simulation of Navier-Stokes equations is still too costly for the purpose of optimization and control of unsteady ows. We examine the possibility of obtaining reduced o...

This paper presents a time-accurate procedure for computing unsteady aerodynamic forces on wings with a full-span oscillating control surface by using sheared grids. In this procedure, the flow is computed by solving the unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations in conjunction with the one-equation Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model. A module to model control surface oscillations...
متن کاملOptimal Control of Unsteady Flows Using a Discrete and a Continuous Adjoint Approach
While active flow control is an established method for controlling flow separation on vehicles and airfoils, the design of the actuation is often done by trial and error. In this paper, the development of a discrete and a continuous adjoint flow solver for the optimal control of unsteady turbulent flows governed by the incompressible Reynoldsaveraged Navier-Stokes equations is presented. Both a...
متن کاملOptimal control for Navier-Stokes Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy equations using Simulink
In this paper, the unsteady Navier-Stokes Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy equations (UNSTSFEs) are represented as a differential algebraic system of strangeness index one by applying any spatial discretization. Since such differential algebraic systems have a difficulty to solve in their original form, most approaches use some kind of index reduction. While processing this index reduction, it is impo...
